Obituary for Mary Alice Rodriguez (Duckens)

Mary Alice  Rodriguez (Duckens)
Mary Alice Rodriguez was born to Sylvester and Willie O. Duckens in Rogers, Texas. The family relocated to Temple, Texas. Mary completed her secondary education at Dunbar High School, class of 1961. On August 23, 1963, she married Victor Rodriguez, and to this union two children were born. She completed a degree in vocational nursing from Temple Jr. College. As a Licensed Vocational Nurse, and worked for Scott and White Hospital for over 25 years.
She accepted Christ at an early age at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Rogers, and later united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing with her brothers and sisters as the Duckens Family Singers praising God at venues near and far. In her adult life, she continued serving within the Mt. Zion community as part of the Nurses Ministry and the Naomi Circle. She was a life member of the VFW Post #1820.
Survivors are her husband, Victor Rodriguez; a son, Antonio Rodriguez of Columbus, Ohio; and a daughter, Maria Pennye of Kansas City, Missouri. brothers : Dr. Sylvester Duckens Jr. and Roy Duckens of Missouri City, Rev. Bob Duckens of Columbus Ohio, and Rev. Dorceal Duckens of Houston; sisters: Clayborn “Tiny” Duckens of Stafford, Joyce Duckens of Houston, Elenor Duckens of Rosenberg, and Silvia Duckens of Garland; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
